Earning with a blog is probably the easiest way to make money at home online. There are plenty of tools to allow you to set up the blog and there are a variety of ways to produce an income. Best of all, if you really want to, you can set up the blog and run it with absolutely no financial outlay.

First, what is a blog and how do you make money from it? A blog is simply a collection of your thoughts, ramblings, opinions or anything and everything that you wish to and are able to type up and publish for others to read. By making it interesting to an audience and including plenty of content, with some useful search terms, you should get traffic and in return be able to convert some of this traffic into an income – that is the easy part!

Creating the blog is quite easy. There’s a choice of tools that you can use to create, manage and even host the blog for free. Blogger and WordPress come to mind straight away, but these are only two of the many available. These sort of systems are great for getting off the ground for free and without any technical knowledge, but they do have limitations in how and where you can include some advertising. Usually only the basic adverts can be included in the body text and some systems will not handle Google Adsense.

The alternative is to use an off the shelf blogging package and host. This is the way I prefer to work, using the WordPress package. For this, you sign up with a basic webhost, register a domain name through them and then follow the WordPress instructions to get your blog live. It’s actually a lot easier than it sounds as the system is simplicity itself to use.

The advantages of hosting the blog yourself is total freedom in what adverts you run and where you run them. Then you just need to build traffic and that is where blogs become very efficient. You write about whatever subjects interest you and in doing so you create a lot of content on your blog and hopefully a following that leave comments.

This content builds up and along with a bit of other work, you generate content that naturally brings in traffic through the search engines.

Then finally you can look at ways of generating an income through your blog. There are a variety or ways. One of the most universal is Google Adsense, where you display adverts from the Google network and get paid per click. But you can also try affiliate selling, being paid per sale generated from the site, or even Pay Per Post, where you are paid directly by an advertiser to write about them.
