Why Buy Niche Websites

If it is so easy to build and run a Niche Website, why then are people happy to buy it off you? It’s obvious why you might be happy to sell it – because doing so earns you an income and allows you more available time to start another site. But why would a person be willing to pay 12 – 18 months’ income for a Niche Website rather than build their own? In fact, in some cases it can be a two to three years’ income at the very least. This is a huge investment in a website that could easily be built be them instead and save the initial outlay.

This is what took me a while to convince myself about and why I was, at first, reluctant to have a go at this business. As a web designer, I’m used to building new websites for customers that have asked for a website, not building a website and then searching to see if there is a suitable customer about.

Yet this prospective website building involves a lot less effort in the design work and an even greater financial reward from the sites when they are sold. As an obvious way to go forward, it was worth a bit of investigation.

What could be the appeal of buying a website over building one, or having one built, from scratch? It all basically boils down to impatience of one kind or another. Take the person wanting to do their own affiliate selling, but not knowing how to build and get a website off the ground. They can buy a package and have this all done for them. I’ve had plenty of customers turn up and expect that for a few hundred I’ll give them a brand new affiliate site that does that. But this is not necessarily where the big money is.

Better still are the businesses starting up with plenty of stock and wanting to get it moving quickly. Not only have they got a fortune in stock to turn around, they probably have staff costs, premises costs and so on. A few thousand extra for a website that is off the ground isn’t much on top of the start up costs, but if the website already has people visiting it and a circulation list of people to email, then this is a ready built sales stream and a way of generating an initial batch of sales. A worthy investment.

So this is definitely something that you should be considering when you are thinking of creating a website. Who will be your target audience when you sell it? Make sure that you pick a niche that will have a suitable audience, where there are plenty of potential buyers who are likely to be able to afford the site.
