Gather Readers in a Forum
If you are heading down the road of building a few Niche sites with the aim of selling them onto someone else in the future, then building quick traffic is the name of the game. One method that you might have considered is to use a newsletter and email your list on a regular basis.
If you have considered this, or are currently running a newsletter for such a site, then there is a vital trick that has probably passed you by that you could be using to great effect.
For people building niche websites based around a subject they know a lot about, for example a favourite hobby, sport or pastime, then there is the chance that there could be a whole string of similarly themed websites on the horizon. For example, if you are a keen runner then you might have uncovered some suitable niche website names based on running shoes, running vests and running shorts etc. The list actually goes on and on!
Now, if you start to build up a portfolio of themed sites then it makes sense to approach this slowly. Get one off the ground and earning money before going onto the second site and learning from the mistakes of the first site. Rush too many at the same time and you will not have the focus on any one in particular and probably none will succeed.
Of course, if you build one site, get it a good amount of traffic and start to get people subscribing to your newsletter, the obvious thing to do is to send this readership an email when the second similarly themed website goes live.
Great, but what about traffic that joins the first site at a later date and how can you promote the first site to the second site’s readership? Think that’s confusing, what about when a third or fourth site drops into the equation? How do you stop yourself from loosing these people when you sell the site – you can’t exactly email them once the site has changed hands and potential buyers would be offended if you were using the newsletter list to promote a similar site.
The answer is simple. Start a themed forum on a brand new website. Give the forum a thread for each of the sites you are running and on these pages push the site, plus affiliate links and other forms of advertising. Promote the forum from within the niche sites, before you start to try to sell them.
But getting a forum going is difficult, that’s where the newsletter list comes in. Email your readership about the forum and they will hopefully drop in. They will see the threads and hopefully start to visit your other sites, Also, when you sell a site you can be cheaky and remove the site from the forum, leaving the thread there in case you start a new similar niche website. Finally, once all of the other sites are sold, you have an excellent selling opportunity in the form of an active forum site.
