Starting a Blog For Profit

Starting a blog is about the easiest way of earning money from home, without getting involved in a scam. It doesn’t turn into an income overnight, but here is what you must do to get started.

Blogging for profit is quite a popular home working idea. It is easy to start up and should not cost you too much. In fact, a basic system can be set-up for no cost at all, but that is not recommended for the best income. A little bit of thought beforehand can be an aid, so here are some basic pointers to help you to get going and earning an income.

Set Up Your Blog

First, you need to set your blog up. You can use one of the free services such as Blogger or WordPress, but if your blog is using one of these names then don’t expect to as much profit as you otherwise could do. Plus, with the lack of control over the site you might have some earning opportunities ruled out.

So if you do want to use Blogger, also buy your own website name and follow the instructions to use that for your blog. But better still, buy yourself a small amount of hosting space (look for PHP with MySQL available), download the latest version of WordPress and install it. There are plenty of instructions in WordPress and your hosts will provide more.

Themes To Look Good

To get the site looking good, take a look around at the thousands of ready made WordPress themes and choose one that you like. But don’t use one because you have seen it used elsewhere - you want your site to look good, but not the same as too many others.

Get Writing

Once the blog is set-up you then need to start writing. At first, whilst you are keen, write at least a post a day. If you can manage more, maybe store them as drafts for when you lose your initial rush.

This gets your site some content, but to start earning you also need traffic and popularity. These do come hand in hand to a degree, so start working on the popularity first.

Make Your Site Popular

For this, start rewriting some of your posts and submitting them to article directories and submitting them as guest posts on blogs. These will all link back to you and this builds your search engine ranking and the number of links into your site. Advertisers will pay a lot more for being on your blog if you have more links in.

This increasing popularity in the search engines along with writing plenty of new content will help you to start seeing the start of you search engine traffic. If you are writing plentifully and submitting to article sites often enough, then this process won’t actually take too long. There are other more advanced techniques to use, but these are good to get you going.

Start Earning

Now you are ready to start earning an income. You can sign up for and add some Google Adwords units to your website. These will earn you an income every time someone clicks on an advert. You can also promote affiliate sites, mentioning products and linking to them.

But probably the easiest way to earn, once you have a Page Rank and plenty of links in, is through being paid for posts on your website. There are a few quality schemes to sign up for, try a few out and you could be earning $5, $10 or even $50 per post of only 200-300 words!

One way of earning a lot of money from home, if you have the know how and the starting cash to risk, is online trading. I know of someone that has set up a home office for just this reason, but there are so many risks involved with these activities that he has multiple computers connected to multiple broadband connections.

On a good day he can make thousands, but equally on a bad day he can also lose thousands. It is all about learning the right time to buy and sell and being at your computer, watching, waiting for that right moment. The poor guy hardly seems to get away from his desk during trading hours, but over the years this means he has amassed a fortune.

If you feel up to the risks, pitfalls, joys and excitement of online trading, then look for some useful advice before you start out. If could make you a lot of money from the comfort of your home, but if you do not get the right advice to start with it could be an expensive mistake.

If you are setting up in a new home business there are a lot of hidden extras to consider. It is not enough to start trading, you have to think about and talk to various people before hand. Here are a few to consider.

First of all, sit down and plan your future home business. What is involved? How will you function? In general terms, how are you going to advertise your business, what will be involved in fulfilling orders and what happens at completion?

A friend of mine works as a translator, translating given texts between Spanish and English. For her, the incoming work arrives in an email and is despatched the same way. Throughout the process it is a fairly simple and straight forward process.

But a customer of mine that I was speaking to this morning is involved in a lot more complicated set-up. She currently owns a physical shop, but because of the shop overheads and the lack of people actually buying in the shop, she wants to move the trade to her family home and save a lot of expenses. But in doing so she is aware that there are a lot of added problems.

If you are buying and selling physical products then you might have to consider receiving and dispatching them. Every day a neighbour of our has a huge lorry full of boxes turn up with his new stock. There are various implications here.

First, not all properties are suitable for a huge lorry to arrive at every day and drop off boxes of stock. In certain circumstances your neighbours might not appreciate it and may even have a right to complain.

Also, if stock is arriving in your home and being stored, even if only for as long as it takes you to load it onto another vehicle, you should check with your insurers that your home insurance policy covers storing these products in your house. On the subject of home insurance, if you are using your home for any business purposes you should check with the insurers that this purpose is allowed.

On the whole, if you are only using your home as an office then there is probably not going to be any complaints. But if you are storing stock or receiving visitors, then your insurance might need more details. If a business visitor to the house slipped and was injured, there would be a claim on your insurance and if you are not covered for business visitors, then you might find your insurers refusing to assist you in the claim. This could turn out to be a very costly mistake! They might also need to know about any extra machinery that you have in the house in order to complete your home working.

You also need to notify your local tax office that you are working from home and how you will be working. You might be self employed or in a partnership. You might even take it as far as becoming a limited company. Again, if you become a limited company and your registered address is your home address, then your insurers might need to know!

Once the tax is sorted, you might decide that you need an accountant to help you file your tax returns as they become due. Keeping the correct records right from the start instead of going to an accountant at the end of the year with a pile of receipts could save you a lot of money in the long run. Even just approaching an accountant and discussing what you will need could be a good starting point.

Starting in business should not be frightening. Just take it a step at a time and get the right assistance.

Playing The Games At Lunchtime

Working from home, my lunchtime is a break to do whatever I want to! No office restrictions or anything! Look at whatever sites I feel like…

And so we come to Slot Machine Games! I always used to love these as a child and I can remember the joy I had when I was playing one on holiday and the jackpot came up! Everyone told me to leave it there, but my next 2p went in (it was the early 80s!) and the reels stuck. My parents dragged me away from the machine after a few jackpots - I think they were worried the hotel would think the machine had been emptied.

Slot games can be enjoyable. There’s absolutely no skill in the ones I always play, just pure luck. A little bit of fun.

Hosting Your Work

If you are running a home business, then it is well worth investing in some new email addresses. And I do mean more than one!

If you are registering your own website name then it will probably come along with a few, if not unlimited email addresses. But why would you need a few, even if you are just affiliate selling?

Well, I have discovered over the last few years that having different email addresses is very useful. If during the course of your research you see something that interests you and you are required to give out an email address, you can sign up using an email created especially for that system. That way, if they start sending you unwanted junk emails, you can just delete the email address and they will no longer get through to you!

If you do not want the full website package, it can still be worth looking at buying a domain name and then just investigating email host packages. It may seem strange, but I have done it in the past and when you suddenly find that you are receiving spam, you know which website has sold your name and you can delete the email from your account. Simple!
